Hindsight is 2020: Mama's Health

As I think back over my years of parenting as a whole, the year that I had three kiddos (ages 4, 5 and 6) really stands out. It stands out for many reasons (a lot of which I have worked through in therapy!!). But perhaps the biggest aspect of that year that I think about (and am grateful for, now) is how much it taught me the value of a Mama’s health.

That year I struggled and struggled to find the time to take care of me. The problems seemed so large, the tasks were piled high and I couldn’t seem to figure out - for the life of me - how to squeeze in time for my own health. And as that year ended, I saw the effects of not taking care of my own body & mind.

An autoimmune disease and many doctors’ appointments later, I know that you HAVE to take care of yourself or else you won’t be able to continue taking care of your little ones (and big ones!). If mama ain’t healthy, ain’t nobody healthy.

Whether this means wearing the baby and going for a walk, putting the kiddos in the gym childcare area so you can get a workout in, or trading babysitting hours with another friend so you can do a hobby you enjoy. Whatever it is for you, make the time. I promise it is of utmost importance!!
